Select Board Leadership

Over the past three years, the Select Board has focused on delivering results that matter—strengthening the Town’s financial foundation, investing in infrastructure, improving communication, and enhancing quality of life for residents. The Select Board along with town staff and an incredible crew of volunteers on all the town boards/committees have worked as a team to deliver a ton of wins for the residents of Westford.

Here’s a sampling of what we’ve accomplished together:

💰 Fiscal Responsibility & Long-Term Planning

We stabilized finances and built a plan for the future.

  • Balanced budgets while maintaining core services and retaining Westford’s AAA credit rating

  • Launched Tri-Board Efficiency Meetings (Select Board, Schools, Finance Committee)

  • Improved transparency in capital planning and spending.

    • New capital planning policy

    • Engaged Tecton Architects to prepare a space analysis plan for various town buildings and prepare a 10-year capital improvement plan

  • Launched the Budget Task Force. Identified efficiencies and cost-saving opportunities across departments.

  • Undertook a comprehensive review of trash services

  • Commissioned an analysis of health care insurance options for the town

  • Renegotiated the lease agreement with Roudenbush Community Center

  • Launch of lockbox payment system to improve tax collection efficiency

  • Supported the adoption of the Prudent Investor Rule

  • Worked with the Town Manager to develop Westford’s first Strategic Plan

🏗️ Infrastructure Investments That Matter

We moved major projects from planning to action.

  • Advanced the Boston Road reconstruction project

  • Continued progress on the new Library building project

  • Secured MSBA approval for the Robinson School feasibility study

  • Approved new sidewalks and roadway safety improvements

  • Supported PFAS remediation efforts for water users and private well owners

🚦 Safer Streets & Better Mobility

We prioritized pedestrian and bicycle safety.

  • Expanded sidewalk planning and improvements

  • Launched a regional bike & pedestrian safety survey

  • Increased community safety programs and enforcement

  • Hosted safety rodeos and school-based awareness programs

🌱 Sustainability That Saves Money

We turned sustainability into real operational savings.

  • Expanded municipal solar projects

  • Invested in energy-efficient buildings and infrastructure

  • Improved fleet and fuel management

  • Expanded composting and waste reduction programs

🏘️ Economic Development & Local Business Growth

We launched a proactive economic strategy.

  • Engaged economic development consultants to work with the town’s Economic Development Committee.

  • “Discover Westford” initiative created to attract and support businesses

  • Strengthened regional partnerships

We made town government more accessible and transparent.

  • Expanded the Town Manager’s newsletter and outreach efforts

  • Increased communication through events, updates, and surveys

  • Launched new opportunities for residents to serve on boards and committees

    • Juneteenth Celebration

    • Monster Mash

    • Local festivals and programs

🏫 Schools, Recreation & Community Services

We strengthened the services families rely on every day.

  • Advanced planning for the Robinson School project

  • Expanded recreation programming and summer offerings

  • Increased library programming and accessibility

We invested in the people who serve our community.

  • Hired and onboarded new firefighters

  • Expanded youth and community programs:

    • Police Youth Academy

We improved how local government works.

  • Made Town Meeting more accessible and scalable

  • Improved communication around decisions and projects
